Tales from the Road
Register for an upcoming Outsourcing Institute Road Show in NYC and Chicago.
Frank Casale, CEO of The Outsourcing Institute sits down with Scott Fuller, Former VP of Global Outsourcing for Pitney Bowes, to discuss Fuller’s experience outsourcing to the Philippines and what implications these have for both buyer and seller.
Before any business decides to outsource, argues Fuller, it has to make an effort to learn about the culture and region thoroughly, which they can only do if the company representatives visit the country and understand the dynamics of living and working there, specifically in terms of friendliness towards expatriates and political stability. Only then can they make a judgement.
He relates his experiences visiting the Philippines, including being searched by an over-the-top, weapon-toting security team, and seeing a military occupation of the hotel and mall. His first-hand experience there added a much-needed context to events that could otherwise have been misinterpreted.
These are situations that “could look like negatives, but when you understand them, they turn out to be, if not positives, they turn out to be something you understand and you’re okay with,” says Fuller.
