I’m constantly amazed at how fast the production world can move…
And equally amazed at how quickly it can grind to a halt.
The editors of yesteryear had the benefit of cutting film with their hands and being able to physically touch each and every frame to find the perfect shot. But that hands-on ability came at a price, effects were near impossible to do one one’s own, and simple optical effects like dissolves were time consuming and expensive to produce.
In the age of the computer, there is no “film” to speak of. No frames to touch. No reels to “cut”. However, we are able to assess information, reference specific shots, duplicate shots, slow-down and speed-up time at an almost break-neck speed in comparison to what was available ten years ago. Massive production studios can now be boiled down into a single room and everyone with a palm-corder and a laptop thinks they can be a filmmaker (and scarily enough for the industry, if they actually know what they are doing with their laptop and palm-corder, THEY CAN).
But with this newfound flexibility comes a different type of price.
This post is dedicated to our clients. Much in the style of The Vanishing Panelist, this post is both to show our commitment to those we work so hard to please, and the frustrations that come with setbacks…
