I got to sit down with Bill Manning - and though we did talk about our sad previous lives as rock and rollers (Bill’s being a part of the Boston metal scene) - you won’t see that discussion here…

Instead, he takes me through using the Aptana IDE to make an AIR application. Already known for it’s Rad Rails, Aptana has simplified and sped up the programming process, creating a default javascript project with some default functionality as a framework to build upon.

During which he also explains how Adobe has created sandboxes for security’s sake, and demonstrates how to talk over the sandbox.

Aptana also adds some additional kick by providing a framework for creating iPhone Web 2.0 applications — and Bill shows me how you can debug right on your iPhone.

Neat stuff.

I do want to point out that we edited out 10 minutes of the interview, where Bill and I go into our ‘dueling goatee routine’. Enjoy.

Garry Schafer is ScribeMedia's Director of Interactive Media. His weapons of choice are many fold, but he's quite partial to Flex as he builds out live and on-demand media players and a host of other apps.
