David Pogue Jam Session

I interviewed David Pogue in our NYC studio a few weeks ago. The interview will go online shortly. Of more interest was what happened once the interview was over. Knowing that he plays the piano, I surprised David with an 88 key Alesis QS8 keyboard.

He had about 7 minutes before he had to leave to catch a matinee broadway show but, in under 7 minutes, we switched the set to a green screen background, put the keyboard in place, did a quick audio check, and in one take he nailed a Weird Al rendition of the Beatles When I’m 64.

As the last note dropped, in a single fluid motion, he then walked past me, shook my hand in passing, grabbed his jacket, and walked out the door to the train to catch the show. Gone as quickly as he came.

If we had more free time, I was going to have Garry then get in front of the green screen and play guitar, Michael play the bass and get on the drum machine to complete the band. Then composite in the entire band…David Pogue and his band.

Thanks to David for being a good sport.
