I once read that whenever Tom Waits — singer, songwriter, actor, clanker of junkyard objects — is set to release a new album or is about to hit the road for one of his rare concert tours he grants just five interviews among the countless requests from media outlets. With his “Glitter and Doom” tour starting next week in Phoenix, Waits has apparently tired of even doing a quintet of interviews and has, rather, opted for a full-blown press conference. Or has he? If you have ever had a problem with the media (and that means most every person on earth) check out the accompanying video. It’s vintage Tom Waits and a searing commentary on how shallow the media can be. OK, I’m going to boogie home, pour myself some Johnnie Walker Red and listen to Waits’ sublime album “Blood Money” and in particular the tune “God’s Away on Business.” That goes double for you deists out there.
