We applaud the use of open source, but there are two sides (at least) to every story, right? Newspapers are adopting “open forums” online to offset the ongoing erosion in their print editions. And while the strategy is designed to attract new readers — who can comment anonymously on articles and news events — adopting open forums is opening up newspapers to a new kind of criticism about what their role should be in an increasingly digital age.
