Is it the end of trying to figure out your physician’s “chicken scrawl” when he or she fills out a prescription? It may be one of several benefits of putting medical records online (the biggest benefit, at least on paper, would be better healthcare). And the way to get more medical records online is for the healthcare community to adopt more open source initiatives, according to a recent presentation by Dr. John Halamka, CIO of Harvard Medical School and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. Online medical records will help store patient files more efficiently, Dr. Halamka said. Privacy issues are a concern, of course, but can be worked out.
