Amid a constant chorus of doom about the fate of newspapers comes a new study showing that newspaper readership in the top 100 markets grew to 80.6 million in Spring 2007, up from 78.7 million in the same period in 2006. It’s the first uptick in newspaper readership in four years (following three years of declines), according to the study, which was conducted by Mediamark Research for Newspaper National Network. One reason why readership has grown: newspaper Web sites have shown consistent growth in unique visitors and may be luring new or returning print readers.
