Google rolls out Knol

Google’s answer to Wikipedia, Knol, launched Wednesday. Knols are articles about specific topics written by experts on that subject. Unlike Wikipedia, every knol entry will have an author, or a group of authors, whose name is prominent. People can also submit comments, and rate and review knols.  Every knol will be like a Web page. Cedric Dupont, Knol product manager, told ZDNet.co.uk: “In the long-term, we hope that encyclopedias, such as Wikipedia, would use knols as references…If Knol is successful, it will help Wikipedia.”
