Carat Revises Ad Estimates Downward

Ad agency Carat has reduced its advertising outlook for every medium save the Internet, per MediaPost. In a new forecast released early Wednesday Carat said it now expects the global advertising marketplace to grow only 4.9% and U.S. ad spending to rise by 2.1% this year. In its preliminary forecast in March, Carat projected global ad spending would grow 6% and U.S. ad spending would increase 3.8% in 2008. Media spending is heading downward for every medium except the Web. Carat now predicts Web spending will grow 23.7% in 2008 vs. its earlier projection of 23.3%.
