Man, there was enough hot air at the Republican and Democratic National Conventions to steam a battleship to China. Now that the bloviating from  both sides is done, prepare for “Lou Dobbs Tonight Independent Convention.”

I’ve never been a big fan of Dobbs and his brand of class warfare that he traffics in on CNN’s “Lou Dobbs Tonight.” But as a registered Independent, kudos to Dobbs for putting the spotlight on election-oriented issues from an independent perspective. (I’ll never understand how a country as vast and diverse as the United States has just two political parties. Maybe because that’s the way Republicans and Democrats like it? Just asking. That’s the rub — Republicans and Democrats are in cahoots and they don’t even know it.)

“Independent Convention” airs next week during the regularly scheduled “Lou Dobbs Tonight” timeslot. Topics include “Broken Government and Lobbying Relation/Media Madness” (Sept. 8); “Illegal Immigration” (Sept. 10) and “Foreign Policy and Independent Candidates” (Sept. 11). Education and Energy are also in the mix.

Here’s hoping for some sound debate about the problems confronting the country. In the least, my guess is the program will be rooted in reality (as opposed to the fantasy land that characterized the Democratic and Republican conventions).
