Social Entertainment: The Art of Building Communities and Engaging Viewers

Miles Beckett and Greg Goodfried, the creators of lonelygirl15 and KateModern and co-founders of the social entertainment company EQAL, spoke at Streaming Media West. They represent a growing contingent of creative new media producers who are actually making money by developing relationships with brands that sponsor their content.

They talked about their latest effort, LG15 The Resistance, a WebTV series that also incorporates social media and other audience participation through community adventures and clue solving.

LG15 episodes include product placement along with companion ads displayed next to the video. For example, Toyota sponsored one of their episodes in which a character bought a Toyota as part of the plot.
