A few blocks from last night’s New York Tech Meetup, a group of media-scenti gathered to celebrate the publishing of Michael Wolff’s new tome The Man Who Owns the News: Inside the Secret World of Rupert Murdoch. Topics of discussion included whether the New York Post would be put up for sale by Murdoch’s News Corp., and whether Mort Zuckerman might be a buyer; the financial troubles of The New York Times and its need to put up its Manhattan headquarters building as a guarantee to secure credit; and staff changes on the print and digital sides of the business magazines around town.

Guests included Wolff’s partner in Newser.com (see this Naked Media episode) Patrick Spain, Condé Nast executive David Carey, blog publisher Nick Denton, mediabistro.com leader Laurel Touby, Wall Street Journal columnist and former top exec Gordon Crovitz, New York-based media reporters Jeff Bercovici, Jon Fine and Jon Friedman, reporters from the Post, Magnify.net’s Steve Rosenbaum, BusinessWeek.com’s John Byrne and dozens of others.
