As Network Neutrality advocates push against the tide of tiered Internet access, they’ve always had a bit of solace in the fact that companies like Google backed their cause. Not so fast, reports the Wall Street Journal. The Google, they say, want a fast lane for apps and services such as YouTube. What the hell, replied Google. The software giant claims the Journal is “confused.” Writes Richard Whitt, Google’s Washington Telecom and Media Counsel, “Despite the hyperbolic tone and confused claims in Monday’s Journal story, I want to be perfectly clear about one thing: Google remains strongly committed to the principle of net neutrality, and we will continue to work with policymakers in the years ahead to keep the Internet free and open.”
