Media reform group Free Press released a proposal to significantly upgrade US broadband infrastructure. Currently ranked 22nd in the world in broadband adoption, and not even making the top 10 in actual broadband speeds, the Free Press plan envisions a $44 billion investment over three years focusing primarily on granting tax incentives to companies laying down new high-speed fiber capable of 100 megabits per second. Current American download speads hover around nine megabits per second. Do the proposal’s goals match those of an Obama stimulus package? You betcha. (Hat tip: ars technica)
