Freedom of Speech, Just Watch What You Say

Pity the 19-year-old Indian who set up an Orkut community to protest the right wing political party Shiv Sena.

Quickly sued for defamation because of messages posted by anonymous users that claimed Shiv Sena is trying to split the country along caste and region, the Supreme Court of India has ruled that the lawsuit can move forward.

In its decision, the Court states that community “owners” and bloggers cannot shield themselves with escape clauses such as “Any views expressed are solely those of the writers.” (Via Times of India)
