Promise and Hope Internship
ScribeMedia has internship opportunities available starting next month for Promise and Hope, a documentary series we’re producing that explores how doctors and patients are using Internet communication technologies to manage, control and treat diseases and conditions.
Moderated by Dr. David Kibbe, Senior Advisor, American Academy of Family Physicians, Promise and Hope is a humanized, cross country exploration of the adoption of innovative Health IT in the United States.
Shooting for the series begins this summer and will include the extraordinary stories of patients and their families overcoming obstacles and obstructions to gaining access to quality health care. These stories will be supplemented with expert opinions from doctors, health care historians, economists, policy makers and key stakeholders from the American healthcare industry.
Promise and Hope will be edited for both Web and television delivery with the first Webisodes scheduled for release in September 2009 as part of a six-month rollout of approximately 24 episodes.
Television and film festival distribution will be sought during and upon completion of the summer Production calendar.
While the internship will have you working with seasoned documentarians and Web developers, your focus will be on content and stories.
We’ll be launching the Promise and Hope Web site in mid to late April as a full-fledged, community oriented publication that explores American health care warts and all. While the Promise and Hope documentary explores healthcare IT in particular, reporting for the Web site will focus on health care debates more generally.
The internship includes two primary responsibilities.
The first is researching, i.e., finding great stories across the country that our film crews should go shoot.
The second is reporting, i.e, writing about your research but more importantly, exploring what the Obama administration is proposing, what its impact is, who’s opposing the plan and what are they suggesting as alternatives? Reporting can be text, audio, video and information graphics.
What we think/plan/hope you’ll learn:
- How to fund projects like this of your own;
- How to utilize and leverage Open Source technologies to tell your stories;
- How to manage, create and deliver Web-based stories;
- Audio and video production techniques and skills;
- How to utilize API’s, social media platforms and other Web-based tools to promote your stories;
The Promise and Hope internship is unpaid in April and May.
Come June when our funding is finalized, you’ll either be offered a monthly stipend to continue as an intern on the project or a position on one of three production crews that will fan out across the country.
