The Poor Plan
PBS’s Tavis Smiley said something on Meet the Press today that I noticed as well during the campaign.
Not a single candidate ever mentioned poor people during the campaign. Everything was about the middle class. The middle class was always positioned against rich people, the top 5%.
Now the language has changed to “Main Street”, code for good, decent, honest, hard working middle class Americans who eat apple pie, against “Wall Street”, code for deceitful greedy rich people who want to make money by stealing it from others or taking it off the backs of hard working Main Street.
It always made me wonder…are there no poor people in America? Does any candidate represent them? Cause they certainly don’t mention them. It’s almost like poor is a taboo word that handlers coach politicians not to use based on “polls” and “research”.
