Ads on Amazon?

Maybe this is old news to other people, but I was searching for a 2 terrabyte external hard drive on Amazon to buy for a customer and I saw an advertisement for a Toyota. I’m not sure if this is contextual or behavioral advertising, or targeted advertising at all since I live in NYC and am searching for hard drives.

When I clicked on a specific hard drive to go to the product details page Amazon then delivered, along with product info, related products, lists people put together that include this product, comments from users about the product, user ratings and what someone who viewed this product most often purchased, an advertisement for Audi, Toyota’s competitor.

For good measure, they then delivered an ad for Sprint further down the page.

Am I the only one who hadn’t noticed Amazon as an advertising play before?
