BK Sponge Bob Kids Meal Commercial
Let me preface this by saying i enjoy the female body. I appreciate it like an art aficionado appreciates a Turner, Cezanne or van Eyck - different artists from different periods with different styles.
I even remember an insight provided by a friend’s dad while walking along the Biaritz coast when I was 15. With all the topless women, there was nothing left to the vivid male imagination. Subtle nuances when it comes to appreciating women’s physical attributes.
But I’m wondering who Burger King is targeting with their new Kids Meal commercial.
Hoochie mamma’s in spandex shorts that don’t even make it to the bottom of their butts shake their asses to a rendition of Sir Mixalot’s club anthem “I like big butts and i cannot lie, all you other brothers can’t deny, That when a girl walks in with an itty bitty waist, And a round thing in your face….”
As a 33 year old white male in NYC, I appreciate it. It inspires me to visit my neighborhood BK.
But I don’t think I’m the target demographic for the kids meal commercial.
Could it be forty something soccer mom’s and their nine year old daughters? “Honey, you could grow up to be anything, the next Mia Hamm, the next Hillary Clinton, the next Meg Whitman….or, the next BK Hoochie Mamma girl.”
I’d be interested to hear from people in the Ad industry. If the target audience is 18-30 year old males, I get the commercial. If it’s impressionable young boys and girls and their moms who will drive them to the nearest BK to pick up the kids meal….i don’t quite get it.
I also wonder when they run the commercial? What’s the media buy strategy? I saw it during the Celtics-Bulls game. But do they also play it on Saturday morning against, well, Sponge Bob? Or Power Rangers? And didn’t the Sponge Bob brand managers have to approve the commercial??
