ADHD is a trait of successful entrepreneurs
I met a senior media executive who started a successful pay-TV company many years ago and we started talking about traits of successful entrepreneurs and how they may not be completely “normal”. That appears to have some basis. A research paper on Ritalin, the drug that is commonly used to treat ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder), says of people with ADHD:
“They are born entrepreneurs or mavericks; they have more spontaneous ideas and have a unique creativity since the brain is always moving from one idea to the next. They are also known to have a better tolerance for chaos and can adapt to volatile situations.”
That seems to make ADHD a desirable disorder for entrepreneurs. But David Giwerc, founder of the ADD Coach Academy says that managing their ADHD could improve their entrepreneurial prowess. Then they can be successful and normal like the rest of us.
