Since my AT&T cell phone rarely gets reception…anywhere…I’ve started to rely on Skype more and more to make phone calls. It’s pretty satisfying. I always use Skype or Google Chat to talk to other people who are on their computers, but haven’t really used Skype to make calls to phones.

What’s funny is that I’m now going to Skype to look at their rates and the site keeps thinking I’m Japanese. It’s displaying its Japanese marketing pages to me. I keep changing my preference to English. Then I click on another page and it goes back to Japanese. Even when I log into my account, my dashboard is in Japanese.

Ok, finally getting the English pages. Initially I bought $10 of credit, but just realized I can buy a monthly USA plan for $2.95 per month. Or, if I want to call internationally, it’s only $12.95 per month.

Normally, I’d use my Speakeasy VoIP phone, but it won’t work in our new office space. So when I’m in the office I have a non-working cell phone and no land line. Thank you Skype. For outbound calls, problem solved.

Now what to do about inbound calls. I think Skype can handle these as well, but I need to figure out how. It’s unclear from their marketing pages.
