Vienna Boys Choir

October 14th, 1985, a date that changed Christmas music forever.

It was on that day that the original boy group, The Vienna Boys Choir, released Merry Christmas, or Frohe Weihnachten. The Boys were / are the only boy band I’ve ever liked.

I was 9 years old at the time. And while I didn’t aspire to be among the prepubescent Austrian boys dressed in sailor outfits belting out Christmas tunes 8 octaves higher than is natural, I did appreciate their music.

The Boys were at the top of their game, the height of their international stardom, and would go on to release over 10 additional albums.

We play the album as a part of our Christmas mix, which my mom starts up around Thanksgiving and continues to play into the new year.

Vienna Boys Choir – Kling Glockchen klingelingeling

Above, The Vienna Boys Choir rocks my all time favorite Christmas tune, Kling, Glöckchen, klingelingeling, like no other.

We’ve never been into the pop star singing Christmas hits thing. Too cheesy. More of a traditional / classical music household.
