Register for an upcoming Outsourcing Institute Road Show in NYC and Chicago.

Frank Casale, CEO of the Outsourcing Institute, sits down with Linda Merritt, Director of HR for AT&T, and a founding member of the HR Buyer Group. Linda talks about the role outsourcing plays in HR today. Outsourcing has been around for a few decades as companies have outsourced specific types of practices like benefits or handling retirement. Enterprise HRO has popped up in the past 5 years.

HR departments should think about HRO strategically to allow HR to focus on the strategic and business end. What business goals and objectives is HR trying to help with? That’s the question one should start with.

How does one determine how much or how little to outsource within HR? Linda provides her perspective on this question.

A lot of people outsource to save money. But when you want to do more than save money, partner with a skilled vendor with expertise who becomes a partner. Outsourcing payroll is pretty safe. When a company starts to think about outsourcing more functions within HR they need to decide whether they will go the best of breed route (identify and partner with the best vendor for each function) or find one vendor that can provide the entire suite of services (they may not be the best in each functional area, but you only have to manage one vendor relationship rather than many).

And managing relationships is critical to HR Outsourcing success.
