I read the news today oh boy. New numbers from the Newspaper Association of America show that total print and online ad spending was down nearly 13% to $9.2 billion in the first quarter, compared with $10.6 billion in the same period last year. Online ad revenues for newspapers in the first quarter rose 7.2%, down from a 22% hike in the year-earlier period. The NAA report arrives on the same day that newspaper publisher McClatchy Co. said that it was slashing 10% of its workforce, or 1,400 jobs, with possibly more job cuts in the offing.
